The New GI Blythe album review

651.1

Using my years of expert musical opinion, I'm listening to the new cd now, and here is what I think, track by track:

1-Run Rabbit Run-- A track most of us are already familiar with, first listened to on The Bureau's "...and another thing" album, this has a more up front hammond on it, brass seems more prominent, Archie's voice as strong as ever.

2-Hundred Dollar Bill--A jaunty rocksteadish track, brass sounding superb, band very tight, liking this a lot.

3-Chasing Shadows--Bloody hell, the brass are fucking immense on this, reminds me of 1981 all over again, Archie's passionate vocals riding this high.

4--Heaven has come--Like a cross between Joe Cocker and Van the Man, Archie's vocals are very smooth, very passionate and uplifting brass on this, with a cool hammond organ breaking in and out, superb.

5--The narrative of G Bristol Groot--A funky brass heavy track starts out to tell a tale and keeps the listener interested until the end.A must listen even for the sax solo near the end, and then the guitar solo, oh it's all bloody genius!

6--Freedom March--Another track familiar from "and another thing" featuring quite beautiful solos from Sir James Patterson and Lord Blythe.

7--Falling--Another song I loved from AAT, this is slightly slower, hammond and brass seem a lot louder, beautiful song, no crowd cheering on this version, they can leave that for us to do!

8--Two Broken Hearts--Oh yes, a toe tapper of the finest degree, If a ran radio(which of course I should do!) then this would be on every playlist known, a hit, a big hit, can imagine all of us getting up to dance to this, even me, with my sizeable bulk would be cutting moves!

9--Fine Mess Rag-Another AAT known track, beautifully paced version this, brass more upfront and longer, a tighter version here in my opinion.

10--Lost in Space--..and we have lift off! and the "trip" starts, very glad to be on board for this journey, a hypnotic and chilled out song but it still manages to keep the listener involved and wanting more.

11--Persecuted Musician syndrome blues--Now, being someone who has not ventured out of europe, this is how I imagine the back yards of the states to be in the deep south, Can imagine a party going down to this track, with grits and root beer and the occasional corn dog, like I say, I don't get out much, love this track tho.

So, all in all, 5 stars from me, this needs to be in your collection if you are a fan of dexys or not, someone needs to give Joolz Holland a bell and get these guys on his show, brilliant stuff, thankyou Geoff and the guys.
